Seeing Dubai from the water is one of the easiest ways to enjoy the city. From Dubai Marina you can sail past the towers of the Marina and JBR, out to Ain Dubai and along the coast towards Atlantis The Palm and the Burj Al Arab. There are three main ways to do it: a shared yacht tour, a private yacht, or a dhow dinner cruise.
Types of yacht and boat cruises
Shared yacht tour
The easiest and most affordable option. A modern yacht with an open upper deck, soft drinks and sometimes a light BBQ. Morning, afternoon and sunset departures.
See shared yacht tours →Private yacht
Your own yacht and crew for birthdays, families and groups. You can often choose the route, add food and bring your own music.
See private yachts →Dhow dinner cruise
A traditional wooden dhow with a buffet dinner, soft drinks and a tanoura show. Good value and great for families.

What you’ll see
Routes depend on the tour and the time on the water, but most cruises from Dubai Marina include some of these:
- The Dubai Marina canal, lined with skyscrapers and superyachts
- JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residence) and its beach
- Bluewaters Island and Ain Dubai, the giant observation wheel
- Dubai Harbour and the open sea
- On longer tours: Atlantis The Palm and views towards the Burj Al Arab
A short 1-hour trip usually stays around the Marina and Ain Dubai. If seeing Atlantis or the Burj Al Arab matters to you, choose a longer tour and check the route on the booking page.
Which cruise should you choose?
| If you… | Choose |
|---|---|
| Want great photos without spending much | Shared sunset yacht tour |
| Are celebrating a birthday or travelling as a group | Private yacht |
| Want dinner and entertainment on the water | Dhow dinner cruise (Marina) |
| Prefer a traditional, old-Dubai feel | Dubai Creek dhow cruise |
| Want to see Atlantis and the Burj Al Arab | A 2–3 hour shared tour or a private yacht |
Best time to go
Sunset is the favourite: soft light for photos, then the Marina towers light up. From October to April the weather on deck is pleasant. In summer, midday sun on the water is very strong, so choose an evening or night cruise and sit under the shade on deck. Tours can be changed or cancelled when the sea is rough, and operators usually offer a new date or a refund.
ID rules and what to bring
Bring an original ID for every guest. Yacht operators in Dubai ask each person to show a valid ID before boarding: a passport for visitors and an Emirates ID or passport for UAE residents. Guests without ID can be refused, so don’t rely on a photo on your phone.
- Your booking confirmation on your phone
- Sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat for daytime trips
- A light jacket for winter evenings, as it gets windy on deck
- Easy shoes you can take off; many yachts ask guests to go barefoot on deck
- Seasickness tablets if you get motion sick
Arrive about 30 minutes early. Check-in often closes 15 minutes before departure and boats leave on time. Most shared tours do not include hotel pickup, so plan how you’ll reach the marina. Dubai Marina Metro and Tram stations are close by.
Booking tips
- Check the exact duration and route. “Yacht tour” can mean 1 hour around the Marina or 3 hours to the Burj Al Arab.
- Read what’s included. Soft drinks are common. Food, alcohol, swimming stops and hotel transfers vary.
- Look at the meeting point. Most leave from Dubai Marina or Dubai Harbour. Save the location in your maps.
- Check the cancellation policy. Many tours allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

Combine it with a desert safari
Many visitors do a sunset yacht in the Marina on one day and a desert safari on another. That way you see both sides of Dubai: the modern coast and the red dunes. Read our Dubai Desert Safari Guide to choose the right safari.
Dubai Marina yacht cruise FAQ
How long is a Dubai Marina yacht cruise?
Shared yacht tours usually last about 1 to 3 hours. Dhow dinner cruises are normally around 2 hours on the water, plus time for boarding. Private yachts are usually booked by the hour, often with a 2-hour minimum.
What do you see on a Dubai Marina yacht tour?
Most tours sail past the Dubai Marina skyscrapers and JBR, then out to Bluewaters Island and Ain Dubai. Longer tours often continue along the coast for views of Atlantis The Palm and the Burj Al Arab. The exact route depends on the tour.
Do I need my passport or Emirates ID on a yacht in Dubai?
Yes. Operators ask every guest to bring an original, valid ID: a passport for visitors and an Emirates ID or passport for UAE residents. Guests without ID can be refused boarding, so don’t rely on a photo on your phone.
What is the difference between a Marina and a Creek dhow cruise?
A Dubai Marina dhow cruise passes modern skyscrapers, superyachts and Ain Dubai. A Dubai Creek dhow cruise sails through Old Dubai past the souks and heritage areas. Choose the Marina for skyline views and the Creek for a more traditional feel.
What is the best time for a yacht cruise in Dubai?
Sunset is the most popular time because of the light and the city lights coming on. October to April is the most comfortable season. In summer, an evening or night cruise is more pleasant than a midday one.
Can I cancel a yacht tour booking?
Many shared tours allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure, and operators usually offer a refund or new date if they cancel because of weather. Always check the cancellation policy on the booking page before you pay.
